This morning I found myself lecturing my 11 year old son about his choices in clothing to go to school. Sounding just like my parents when I started expressing myself by wearing old man work overalls 20 sizes too big, stained, with holes (one of many favorites!). I thought he should take pride in a good put together appearance. Mostly, he just wants to dress like a jock. My mom reminded me that this is essentially the same thing. But, when I was in school jocks made fun of you, they were sometimes bullies, and I have always had trouble identifying with that. However I struggle with my boys becoming jocks I dont have to associate it the same (I hope that has changed!). I prefer their self expression to include a motorcycle jacket and look more like James Dean. Ok, no more dressing lectures from me 😁
