This mornings news: The medical staff has begun to wean Tim off the anesthesia and the ventilator. They are wanting to take this slow so his body doesnt react in a drastic fashion. The family in Houston cant wait to see him, but they know its best to take it slow. They should get to see him later today. His mother did get a quick peek at him this morning. She said he is swollen from laying in the same position for so long, but that is to be expected. His medical team have had nothing but wonderful things to say about Dr Byrd, the surgeon that worked tirelessly for 8 hours to remove the tumor. They said Dr Byrd is so precise, delicate and methodical with his work that there was practically no damage caused by him while removing the tumor that required repair. Thank God for leading Tim to MD Anderson and Dr Byrd! They had to transplant some nerves and muscle from his left side to do some repair to his back. They are checking this area every hour for signs of trouble, but so far it all looks good. Tim will have to lay on his right side for at least 3 weeks to allow the wounds to heal. (We need to pray for Tims patience and his Mothers strength & endurance during this healing process.) They did not have to take bone from his femur to repair his sacrum. The sacrum is thin in some areas and will be fragile for a while, but they feel it will strengthen with time and cause no major problems. They were very concerned about a major nerve being damaged, but that ended up being no problem. They say everything went better than expected. The absolute best outcome they could have hoped for. Thank you, God, for taking care of Tim during surgery, guiding the surgeons every move, and comforting the family in Houston. Please keep blessing Tim during his recovery and healing. Its far from over......but this is a GREAT START!!!! Lets keep PUSHing! Pray for comfort & healing! Share!
