This past week end the 16th annual convention of the Biblical - TopicsExpress

This past week end the 16th annual convention of the Biblical Mennonite Alliance (BMA) which our church is a part of was held here in Lancaster county. Its a large event and family oriented with many churches represented throughout USA. From the beginning I had decided I wasnt going. I was NOT going to sit through 2 1/2 days of meetings and four meals by myself. Then Monday of last week I noticed there was going to be a mass choir for those who love to sing and was going to presented in the Sunday morning service. Ive always loved to sing though Im definitely not operatic material...I just love to sing. But I need to the spring/summer of 2013. Because of my honeys illness, he was to weak to sing and because the message of the songs, I couldnt sing because I spent most of our praise and worship time crying. So after he passed I had to learn to sing again. That sorta blind-sided me... So thinking of joining a choir and singing in front of 1300 + people was a tad daunting. Friday I went to the first rehearsal and boy, did I feel out of my element! At sixty-five years old the chances of me being the oldest was pret-ty big but I wasnt...and there were more gray-haired folk there too! By the time rehearsal was over, I left there feeling I had accomplished more than learning new musical terms and songs. In that brief time I connected with strangers who are the same age as my grandchildren (I knew two people out of the fifty that were there). It was also a declaration that I will not be afraid to go beyond my comfort zone. Kind of like putting a stake into the ground for my song voice. We had another rehearsal Saturday evening and thirty minutes early Sunday morning. And you can bet I was nervous! My hands were cold and my heart was thumping and on top of that, I was afraid Id trip coming down the four steps from the platform. Im much more comfortable in bare feet...yep, I did! I walked up in my bare feet and dont think a soul noticed! I navigated the narrow steps well, walked back to my seat and felt like I had conquered the world...barefooted! :)
