This really irks me to no end. When I was a freshman, working on my 2nd bachelors, a fine arts degree in apparel design at Wayne State University in Detroit, in the 80s, I submitted a design entry into a contest sponsored by Winklemans. At one time, it was a fine Womens retail department store. My design didnt win. I didnt even receive a response of recognition for my entry. My design was unique to my body style, bcs my family is not tall. My job was always altering my parents clothes. I hemmed pants almost daily for little, or no pay. Of course, my parents pay me everyday just for being my parents. While I finished my fashion degree, I worked as an English teacher. Before that, tho I had a design company and a training school. I called my clothing line ultra casual. I hated ironing, but always desired a crisp, appearance. My educator parents and family instilled that. So, annoyed with hemming, I designed wrist and ankle cuffed two-piece knits and submitted them to the design contest. Months later, I saw my design on the racks of every major sporting goods department in amerikkka. They named them, sweat suits. I never saw a penny, nor received any recognition, appreciation, or notoriety for my unique design that is still stylish, today four decades later. My ancestors know, tho. I learned from them and Ive passed those skills on to other youth of Afrakan ascent. My little brother and sister can tailor and my little sister designs with the best.
