This summer, the Sheriffs Department teamed up with the San Diego Hall of Champions for a fun and exciting event designed to inspire local at-risk children to strive to be the best they can be. Sheriffs Juvenile Detectives ran the summer camp program for nearly 100 children. The students were recommended by schools and community service organizations within the jurisdiction of the Sheriffs Department. The program aims to promote friendships, confidence, leadership and positive life choices. The camp also provides an opportunity for interaction with law enforcement role models so campers know they can turn to deputies for help and support at school or on the streets. Funding for the Champions Camp is provided in part by Verizon, Helm360, San Diego Padres, San Diego Zoo and Go VAVI.
