This type of song is supposed to be sad, more than sad; it is - TopicsExpress

This type of song is supposed to be sad, more than sad; it is supposed to capture the poignant sadness of the instant when the gazelle, trapped by the hunter, knows the imminence of its death and the hunter, paralyzed by the beauty of the gazelle, knows that his paralysis will lift and he will kill it, anyway. The ghazal is a song about that frozen second in time when their eyes lock. Crippled by terror, the gazelle cannot flee; moved by its grace, the hunter cannot shoot. They are caught in each other’s gaze, but they both know that this will last for only a moment; at its conclusion, remorselessness will take grace and turn it into carrion. The development of the ghazal genre is based on the premise that this fateful moment is the perfect analogy for love. Which tells us one thing straight off: this is not a country of incurable romantics. from /Moghul Buffet/, Cheryl Benard
