This was not strictly Nostalgic Truro but I thought I would post it as it does have a direct historical link with our Truro. It was taken of me at the entrance to Truro, South Australia, in August 2005. Truro is a small town on the Sturt Highway, the major road link between Adelaide and Sydney. There is a book about it called Truro, The Travellers Rest, Wheels - Wheat - Wool 1838-1989 by Reg S Munchenberg and I give a little information from the book: It is the only town of this name in the Southern Hemisphere. (Apart from the Cathedral City in Cornwall, England, there is also a Truro in Nova Scotia, Canada; in Massachusetts, USA and Iowa., USA.) The District Council of Truro was officially formed in August 1876. On several occasions Truro residents have visit Truro in Cornwall and vice versa. On 25th Nov 1981, Cr. W.M. Rice, Chairman of Truro District council had a telephone conversation (at 5.30 a.m.) with the Mayor of the City of Truro, Mr Ernest Hockin. Whilst speaking, Cr. Rices photograph was shown vis satellite, on television screens in various parts of England. Mr Hockin visited and was entertained by Truro councillors in April 1984. Peter Clarke of Truro, in 1983 visited Truro, Cornwall, and went to the City Council who were most interested in his visit. To mark the visit, he was presented with a plaque from the City Council which was given to Truro Council. The main street of Truro looks very different to the centre of Truro in Cornwall!. When we visited the House of Olives I was amazed to see a wall display about Truro in Cornwall at one end of the room. I did take a photo but it is not a very good one!. Wonder if this Truro knows about the forthcoming Truro Day?! Incidentally back in 2005 they had leaflets about various walks around the town. Does our Truro have anything like this for visitors??
