This was passed on to me by Christos who would not steer us wrong! Bet it will be good! Here it is: Three Mighty Specks in Nanaimo This Saturday Only 18 months old, Mighty Speck Records is embarking on their first BC Tour - a trek that will take nine roster artists to ten BC cities, showcasing a diverse mix of genres at fourteen shows over seven weeks. Mighty Speck Records is a unique record label with a mandate of focusing on community (each label artists brings awareness to a charitable organization of their choice), artist development, and youth mentoring. The MSR roster is currently comprised of fourteen artists from throughout BC. (Official MSR Website). Each tour stop features a showcase of a minimum of three MSR roster artists, and at times as many as six. With the Victoria & Courtenay launch shows out of the way, the tour now makes its way to Nanaimo this Saturday July 19 at The Globe for a 4-act songwriter showcase, featuring 3 acts from the MIghty Speck Records roster - Daniel Francis (from Victoria), James Kasper (from Victoria), and Chris Andres (from Qualicum Beach). They will be joined by Nanaimo duo Sweetboxx as the special guest headliner. After the Nanaimo showcase, the tour gets busy in August starting with BC Day weekend in Port Alberni (at Chars Landings 3rd Anniversary Bash), followed by August 8th in Ucluelet, August 9th in Vancouver (at Joes Apartment), August 21st in Nelson (Expressions), and August 22nd split between Penticton (Leir House) and Shawnigan Lake (Amp Camp Festival). The August 29 showcase will be held at In The BeanTime in Ladysmith, before wrapping up with the grand tour finale August 30th at Merlins Sun Home Theatre in Victoria. By all accounts, the Mighty Specks - as they are affectionately known to each other - are excited about the labels debut tour. MSR released its debut roster album, Various Artists Volume One, in November 2013, and their second album, Specktacle, is set for release in August. The labels name is derived from a poem titled The Mightiest Speck of Dust which label Director James Kasper wrote around the time of the organizations inception. MSRs concept reflects the sentiment in the Margaret Mead quote Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, its the only thing that ever has.
