Everest Institute Cross Lanes students, faculty help community 11/12/2014 Corporate Communications Everest Institute Cross Lanes students and staff helped provide food and clothing at The Hope Chest’s Nov. 7-8 community service event CROSS LANES, W. Va. — For the past several months, students and staff at Everest Institute Cross Lanes have been collecting clothing, shoes, toys, household items and more for The Hope Chest, a charitable organization that annually distributes the items to Charleston, West Virginia residents who need them. For the past seven years, The Hope Chest has helped address the needs of residents in Charleston, West Virginia who need assistance. During its first year, the organization provided 50 Charleston, West Virginia residents with warm winter coats. The Hope Chest has grown, and continued to gain sponsors and receive more donations from caring groups like the students at Everest Institute Cross Lanes. In preparation for The Hope Chest’s Nov. 7-8 event, some Everest Institute Cross Lanes students and staff members stayed after class or came in on days off, collecting two trailer loads of donations. Many of the Everest students also volunteered their personal time and resources to work at the weekend event, helping to feed and clothe more than 1,400 disadvantaged members of Charleston, West Virginia. “Although our campus will be closing soon, our students still felt the need to be of service to their community,” said Meghan Swartz, program chair. “We continue our great legacy of community service here in Cross Lanes despite our unfortunate circumstances. These students have huge hearts and never cease to amaze us at what they can accomplish,” she said.
