This was the day theyve waited all their lives, the moment the whole worl, revolved around the former worlds best winger and the self acclaimed 6ft 5in worlds best stricker...but after 4score minutes of football, it was Cristiano Ronaldo who dived to the header and wrote his sealed his name across the occasion. Portugal could have taken the lead after 5 of play, when Joao Moutinho timed his run to a Raul Meirles pass to perfection but the midfielder narrowed his angle after rounding Isaksson and only got the better part of the side net. Sweden responded immediately but falling Johan Elmander failed to control a Mikael Lustigas cross from the right as the ball flew across the post. The visitors continued to attacked, and goalkeeper Rui Patrivio had to turn away a Seb Larsson strike assisted by Elmander, before Kim Kallstron fired a free kick just way off the post... With neither sides and stars falling to shine, the first 45 came to a halt.. Portugal once again showed more intent in the early part of the second half, when a cross caused chaos in the Swedish box, but Lustiga got his postion right and cleared off the goalline just after 4 of play, before Ronaldo had his thunder bolt flying high off the post. Silent Nani in the 54 fired a low cross with Postiga waiting to collect, but Nilsson turned it out for a corner...Postiga sent home a near-post header from a Moutinhos corner before coming off for Hugo Almeida, shortly before Ronaldos late tackle yellow card on Isaksson enraged the local funs.... And for what its worth, that might as well be a the icing on the cake..with just about 8 left of regular time and 4 score and 1 minutes of pin ball soccer, a Miguel Velosos left hand side cross met Ronaldo, who got the better of Martin Olsson in the six yard box and header low to beat Isaksson in the post. Ronaldo could have double the lead, but saw his header clutter against the woodwork..
