This was written by Luisa Chapman. Jeff was part of her farm after his rescue. It moved me to tears and I decided to share it with the public. My name is ACTION.This is my prayer. Will you listen? My name is Action. Jeff Action. I used to live at the Arima race track. We had some good days. You may even have seen me run! But mostly I could not run fast enough. One of my legs became more and more sore. I tried, I really did, but I know I was a disappointment. I am sorry for that, but we cannot all be champions. PLEASE DONT ABANDON US! I met Action the day before he died. He had been rescued by the TSPCA and ANIMAL WELFARE NETWORK 5 days before. He had not left the Arima race track more than 2 or 3 months, yet he was dying of starvation. His owner had sold him on. Actions welfare no longer his responsibility. Not long after, it was realised that not one more dollar could be flogged out of Action and he was taken away. Tied up and abandoned, he slowly starved. His head bore the raw marks of how he had tried to free himself. He looked like a cartoon version of a horse. A walking skeleton. But his heart and spirit were still willing to try. He was given one last chance and brought to a place where he could be with other horses and feel safe. He was bathed and had his wounds tended to. He ate a little and liked to be hand fed grass. Still trusting. But it was too late. On Friday night he lay down but did not have the strength to stand back up. And still he tried. His side was rubbed raw with trying and he was bathed in sweat with the effort of it. But he had no muscle left to raise himself up. I rested my hand on his damp cheek and asked for his forgiveness. Forgiveness for his suffering. I told him I was so sorry. Sorry from those who were directly responsible for this cruelty. Sorry from those who look the other way. Sorry from those who know that Action is not the only one who is abused like this, but who feel that it is not their responsibility or who shrug and say what can I do?. Sorry from those who say, its just a horse. Action lifted his head slightly, in one last effort of recognition. His eye flickered. Please dont abandon us. I bore silent witness to his awful suffering. Action was euthanized. The City Corporation kindly agreed to help dispose of his body. He was taken to the La Basse. Will you listen to his prayer?
