This week, as Im away, Im going to answer two of the ASK DR NAT - TopicsExpress

This week, as Im away, Im going to answer two of the ASK DR NAT questions. One now, and another one tonight. :) Q: Hi Dr. Nat, I asked you last week so I apologize for the duplicate question! I would really appreciate your feedback on this! I havent had my period since going off birth control almost 8 months ago (and I was on the pill for 15 years). Beforehand, while a long time ago, I had normal periods. With each passing month, I get more and more anxious, wondering when/if ever (!!!) I will finally ovulate and have a period. My doctor wanted to induce a period at the 3 month mark, but I refused.(She didnt want to put me on OCP but to use hormones to induce a period). But now, I am wondering how long should I wait? I know a woman risks bone loss the longer she goes without menstruating. It also wasnt made clear to me by my whether inducing a period would wake up my pituitary-ovarian axis allowing ovulation to finally occur on its own afterwards. Or, is it a one time deal? Do you know? I dont want to resort to this, but I am wondering if I should if after a year, still no aunt flo! Thank you for listening and for all that you do Nat. A: Thanks so much for this question - I know so many women are feeling the same! Its important to think about why this is happening - why the pituitary has gone offline and mostly it is because the body is simply way to depleted on the back of being on the oral contraceptive pill. The Debunking PCOS download is perfect for all women - especially those left without a menstrual cycle post pill. We nut through everything you need to do to get your period back and Id encourage you to download (and not be put off by the PCOS title). There are several things we need to do to get our periods back but mostly we need to restore vitamin and mineral stores, we need to nourish our bodies on every level - emotionally and physically and we need to learn how to manage stress which is the hardest! Inducing a period doesnt actually cover any of these factors but force something to happen that the body may not be able to do - so Id suggest you really come in and nourish the body and then failing a menstrual cycle look at options - but doing this from a place of depletion isnt necessarily going to get things moving. x
