This week several chief and station officers are attending the annual VCOS conference. This is one of many conferences that SFD officers attend annually. VCOS is the volunteer & combination officer section of the International Association of Fire Chiefs. Our staff attends this conference each year where we learn about best practices in the fire service as it pertains to combination systems. This annual conference spans four days including a Thursday pre-conference and three additional full days of educational and networking opportunities with peers from around the nation. The attendance at this conference has grown each and every year and now exceeds 500 attendees. As a large combination system, which includes volunteer, part time and full time career firefighters, its important to stay on top of new trends and learn from fire service experts so we can continue to grow as an organization and continue to provide the best possible service to our rapidly growing community.
