This week started off with a bad smell around tent 16. After some digging to see what caused the odor we found a dead python. It is not clear how the snake died by it looked like it might have encountered the banded mongoose family that also lives under tent 16. Eventually after two days of digging a 4 meter python was removed which was quite sad because we don`t get to see pythons that big on a regular basis. Kgadi and Maretwa popped out the bush in front of the lodge in the middle of the day on Thursday and staying the whole afternoon. They also made sure the guests new that they were around at night with loud vocalizations that echoes through the Jagters rus valley. There was one spotted and a few brown hyenas that visited the camp at in the morning hours, snooping around staff accommodation and the back of the lodge kitchen. There is a lot of general game activity at KD plains at the water hole throughout the day making for some stunning photographic opportunities. It also seems that the afternoons are more active with black back jackal sounds and activity that before which might seem to show a change in the season. The blooms of the Wild pears are a very good indication that spring has arrived. All we need now is rain to settle the dust and clean the bush. The elephants or shall I say one bull visited the staff accommodation at KD getting into camp and breaking some trees and keeping the staff up at night. Regards Wikus
