This will come as no surprise since we have all seen it building. Probably the more serious problem facing America (more than the issues preoccupying everyone as they watch their TVs) is that Washington at the highest level and Wall Street have joined forces with the blessing of the Supreme Court to create a culture of corruption of a magnitude far exceeding the 2008 meltdown; our crime syndicate is not unlike the one developed by Putin in Russia...we just give it a more acceptable name. William Black, a bank regulator who prosecuted the corrupt Savings and Loan Executives (remember Keating and his corrupt Senator backing --- one of which was McCain?) leading to jail time (and author of the book The Best Way to To Rob a bank is to Own One) lays bare the ugly underbelly of the current U.S. financial beast on the latest Bill Moyer show. We bailed out the banks and then paid the 125 billion in fines for the crimes of the bankers yet none went to jail and they kept their big bonuses for activities otherwise classified as felonies; they were not too big to jail...they were simply teflon coated by corruption at the highest level starting with the President with huge contributions from the financial industry. This criminal partnership goes all the way back to Clinton (probably before), who deregulated the banks, was supported by Bush and now Obama and his administration. The Justice Department failed miserably to do its job which is to prosecute the thousands of criminals and even the Supreme Court ruled in favor of this corruption with the catchy slogan money is free speech. I guess in each generation we have to fight corruption, greed, abuse of power and evil because that simply is the human experience. The incentive structure is all in place to continue this criminal behavior and the manipulation and theft of average citizen assets. Folks we are headed for a big fall, bigger than 2008 unless we get independent prosecutors and people on the hill with guts willing to fix our financial system and that means auditing the Fed. Interesting that we Marginalize courageous politicians willing to take on these issues as we get caught up in the phony Democratic-Republican game every election. Meanwhile I am waiting for Superman....since we are in a bleak lawless period. If you have any ideas on what the average person can do please share.
