Those who know me, know, that I am ever the optimist. Today, I - TopicsExpress

Those who know me, know, that I am ever the optimist. Today, I finally got around to planting those two blackberry plants. They came in an optimistically colored green and white box. The box came with the instructions printed on the outside. They too were written optimistically. They directed me to dig two -18 inch square holes and fill the bottom of the hole with premium top soil. Then I was to carefully remove the blackberry plants from the packing. Gently placing the blackberry plant at the bottom of the hole while gently spreading the roots so that they would not be crowded. Fill the hole and water thoroughly for several days. So, with great optimism, I dug my two holes and filled the bottom of the holes with premium top soil and reached optimistically for the packed blackberries. Gently unwrapping the plants I found two withered sticks. Each stick was roughly nine inches long and a quarter the width of a cocktail straw. Each stick had three roots. Each root was 1/32 of an inch long. A lesser man would have railed against his bitter fate. Not I. I am a American Consumer. I am ever the eternal optimist. I will follow the directions and water them thoroughly for several days. I will drench them in Miracle Grow. And you will see, in a year, maybe two. I will have bigger sticks.
