Thought Id weigh in on the big controversy of the day: Adele vs Aretha, RE Rolling in the Deep. First, I liked Adeles song and her version. Shes got a big voice and she used it well in that song. Arethas recent version of the song is a horrible embarrassment that someone should have talked her out of releasing. That being said, if you compare Adele to Aretha in her prime, well, theres really is no comparison. Listen to Arethas I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You and tell me you dont get chills up your spine. Its as brilliant today as it was in 1967. Why dont we let Adele take a crack at I Never Loved a Man while shes in her prime and see how she does with it. Thats a much better test than 80 year-old Aretha singing Rolling in the Deep (which made me so sad to hear I couldnt finish listening to it). Aretha earned the title Queen of Soul for good reason and she retired with the crown. Thats the lady I choose to remember.
