Thoughts arise in our consciousness without our permission, and - TopicsExpress

Thoughts arise in our consciousness without our permission, and oftentimes are frightening or embarrassing in nature. These only have the power to define who we are if we harbor them and allow them to become a part of our life. Simply having the thought, however, does not mean that you are that thought. Nor does it reveal the content of your heart. Religion, though, has trained us to always be on the lookout for black spots in our hearts, and so an unsavory thought often leads us on an internal witch hunt to find out the sinful source of the thought. There is no dark, sinful force within however, as thoughts simply come and go and do not reveal the contents of the heart. We must learn to live in a state of personal peace and stillness where we can simply observe thoughts arising without internalizing their meanings or finding our identity in their arisings. We are not the thoughts we think, unless of course we believe were the thoughts we think. We are who Christ has revealed humanity to be, and the delight of God over us is the only things that define us. When thoughts that contradict your nature arise, dont take them in, but dont fight them either, as that only strengthens them. Just peacefully watch them pass and know that youre so much more.
