Thoughts from Chief Sjolander... The porch... Officer - TopicsExpress

Thoughts from Chief Sjolander... The porch... Officer Stephainie and I responded to a lot of call yesterday afternoon. We had everything from a found dog to a young boy stuck in a tree. Im not one for talking about calls much here, but the last one of the night made me think... During one of our calls, we were visiting with an older person. Ive known this person for years and every time Im there, I look at their front porch. This person likes to keep to themselves, they are private, and I can respect that, but looking at this porch makes me a little sad. Every time Im there, I wonder when the last time this porch was a gathering place for family and friends. When was the last time people sat here and visited about the weather, local news, summer plans, etc. I can see it in my mind. Kids running up and down the steps and jumping off them while they play tag. Parents telling them to slow down, and grandparents telling stories. It looks so empty now. This porch needs people. It needs laughter, handholding and a swing. I wonder if a first kiss has ever taken place on this porch, or if dad turned the light on as a sign that the date was over and its time to come inside....I hope so. If you have a porch, or a deck, please use it. Fill it with family, friends, and laughter. Take some time to sit on a swing and just listen. Life is too short and sometimes all we are left with are memories of our time together just being who we are. What are you waiting for. Grab some chairs, dust off that swing and starting making memories. Stay safe, Lee
