Thoughts in Worship for Sabbath, July 19, 2014 Focus: Worship Life Worship is basically when we pay homage to someone or something to which we have assigned value. Who or what is the focus of your worship? It is often easy for us to look at those around the world, or in history and scoff at how they worshipped idols and images. But, the truth is that many of us who would never bow the knee to and image of a cow or person with multiple arms, often put forbidden relationships, people, entertainment, misuse of food/drinks, and all sorts of other vices above the Creator. Whatever competes with God for our attention is an idol to which we have built an altar, and make daily sacrifices. The problem is that according to the closing verses of Romans, chapter one, whenever we do this, we end up living in sin on levels we would never have expected. When God is not welcomed to occupy the throne of our lives, there is no type of sin of which we are not capable. We must not fool ourselves, if in this state, that we can trifle with sin and not sink to deeper depths. The blessing is that it is a blessed privilege to worship our Creator. Every good and perfect gift comes from Him. He gives us our breath. He gives us the ability to experience joy and love. He presents us with many opportunities to be healed from past hurts. The only real risk in seeking to worship the true God of the universe is that you might actually always have Him on your mind. But hey, what harm could there be in this? With God consistently before our consciousness, we will become like Him. That’s a good deal, considering how good He is!—L. David Harris
