Thoughts on the Feast of Gods Word So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander. 2 Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation-- 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good. 1 Pet. 2:1-3 (Cf. 1:23-25 for some context re: the theme of the Word) 1. Preparation to feast on Gods Word is important. Trying to eat while youre wishing ill will, hiding something, putting on a facade, wishing you had someone elses whatever or having a mouthful of lies against another, ruins the meal set before you. Before you feast, wash your hearts. 2. The contrast is striking. Babies tend to be of a one track mind, or so we perceive. When they are hungry, they want to eat. not play, not sleep, not anything. This is how we should be when thinking about the Word...like a baby with a bottle of moms best. If there is no longing for Gods word, we may not be hungry, having filled ourselves with other things, crowding out space in our spiritual stomach for pure nourishment. Sometimes its good to be a baby. 3. Growing up e.g. maturing as a Christian does not come apart from Gods Word. It is a means of growth by which we come to more fully know, understand, embrace and embody the salvation which God has brought about in our lives. No Word = No growth. 4. Lack of desire can reveal lack of taste buds. Taste is natural but it can also be cultivated, trained. If one has no taste for the Lord, there may never have been true spiritual birth. We must not confuse eternal religious ritual with feasting spiritually on Christ. There is an eternity of difference here. If you have tasted the goodness of the Lord, you will know it. His goodness, once tasted is unmistakable. All you can eat, no danger of lbs. 5. When we read/study/meditate on/memorize/think about I.e. drink the pure spiritual milk of Gods we are tasting the goodness of the Lord. The goodness of the Lord through a BOOK like none other! Pick it up and read! #GodWroteABook #WhyWouldWeNotWantToReadIt #ReadAndRejoice
