Three months ago I was promoted into Fire Prevention as a Lieutenant. I went in with an open mind, hoping to learn to investigate fires. Really that was all I was looking forward to doing while biding my time to bid back on the line. All I was qualified to do was smoke and carbon monoxide detector inspections for home sales. Ten hours a day, four days a week I tested detectors. I found out that even if I took the fire marshal class, I still wouldnt be certified to investigate fires , that required attending a two week course in Maryland. I have no intention on doing that and with no one ever retiring in Cranston, I decided to resign as a Lt and go back to the Special Hazards as a firefighter. I have been absolutely miserable in FP and life is way too short to stay that unhappy.
