Three years ago today I was in Brisbane. Id witnessed Ali Cook and Jonathan Trott break numerous records at The Gabba, turning probable defeat to a probable draw in the process. I then tried, along with many other Barmy Army personnel, to drink the city dry, having a magical time in the process. Upon returning to my room I checked my e-mails to discover that my beloved Grandad, Tom Bowyer, had died a couple of days previously. It was so typical of the man, with a mischievous sparkle in his eye, even at 90 years of age, a wicked sense of humour and an infectious giggle to go out on a day that meant, when I think of him, I always smile when I shed a little tear. In many ways we were vastly different men. He was a quiet, modest, unassuming, almost shy man, not traits that people generally level at me. However he was kind, loving, generous to a fault and a deeply caring man and if I can be just a part of him in these facets of my life, well, I dont think Ill be doing too bad. Miss you G
