Through our partnerships with Platte River Recovery Implementation - TopicsExpress

Through our partnerships with Platte River Recovery Implementation Program, Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District (CNPPID) and Rainwater Basin Joint Venture, the USFWS will be able to help with some of the flooding along the Platte River. As CNPPID fills Johnson Lake, Elwood Reservoir, and the Phelps County irrigation canal system, Funk Waterfowl Production Area will receive approximately 2,000 acre feet of water. The flow of water has already started onto three of the five units on Funk WPA that are to receive water over the next couple weeks. Not only will this water benefit those living along the river, by alleviating some flood damage potential, but will also provide some great habitat for fall migration; increased waterfowl hunting opportunities; ground water recharge; and potential roosting and feeding habitat for the endangered Whooping Crane. We will be adding photos as they come available.
