Throw down for an out! Emma with KC Freedom (14U) takes a couple - TopicsExpress

Throw down for an out! Emma with KC Freedom (14U) takes a couple of pitches and throws from her knees to prevent a would be stolen base. I included the first pitch to illustrate a couple of points. The first pitch is low in the dirt on a very dusty day. Emma takes a moment to shake of excess dust that could result in mishandling the next pitch. Dust acts as a lubricant and can cause the ball to slip right out of your glove. remember to shake the dust off after fielding a pitch in the dirt. Emma keeps her eyes open as she receives the pitch and immediately checks the runner at first. With runners on base, give a glance after receiving a pitch to let them know you know they are there. A menacing glance (Like youre mad at a sister or brother) can be intimidating and make a runner think twice about chancing a steal. Even a slight hesitation as they take off gives you the advantage. Emma cleanly receives the pitch and fires to second. (I failed to pan for the tag at second) Emma has practiced throwing from her knees and it pays off. Whether throwing from the knees or standing up to throw, its critical to use as much of your body in the throw as possible.
