Thursday, November 28, 2013 Good Morning Everyone….gobblers too! It’s time to rise and smile and put the last minute touches, to complete that turkey dinner. Can’t you just see that gravy based turkey, stuffed with seasoned dressing, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes (yams), green beans, baked apples, and pumpkin pie? But first, let us rise and kiss the cook and love the children. You might even be hosting family guests. Invite them to gather round the room for a moment of devotions, prayer and praise on this special day. After which we’ll enjoy a simple but delicious breakfast of pancakes with Highland County syrup, sausage and topped off with milk or coffee. LET US PRAY: Heavenly father, we thank you for this feast of Thanksgiving, created by our forefathers, we still celebrate your blessing on this country which continues this day. Let us be thankful for all you do for each of us, our community and our country. May we stand with you as we pray for peace, love and we pray for a revival of our countrymen, not seen since the beginning of our great nation. We ask for everyone to gather around the Thanksgiving table, renewing our faith in you and ask that America stand strong as one nation, under God, invisible, with liberty and justice for all. We thank thee through Jesus our Savior, Amen. COMMENT: In a Facebook letter last night, my son Chris, noticed a very impressive note. It was written to the Covington High School football team who are knocking on the door to be state champions. In that note, William “Boo” Stewart, Assistant Varsity Coach, encouraged the team to work as one. Stewart said that it will require everyone to work together because one person by themselves can’t do it. It also means not giving-up on your brothers when things aren’t going your way. He also said it is necessary to have God in your life and “watch him make wonders.” I was impressed to say the least about Mr. Stewarts note. This year hosts a great team of leaders and team players. The Cougars remind me of David and Goliath in the Bible. CHS might be a small school by population standards, but they are doing big things. Go Cougars, take God with you, and may your dreams come HYMN: “We Thank Thee” – Jim Reeves (1962) Lyrics: We thank Thee each morning for a newborn day where we may work the fields of new mown hay We thank Thee for the sunshine and the air that we breathe Oh Lord we thank Thee We thank Thee for the rivers that run all day we thank Thee for the little birds that sing away we thank Thee for the trees and the deep blue sea Oh Lord we thank Thee Oh yes we thank Thee Lord for every flower that blooms birds that sing, fish that swim and the light of the moon. We thank Thee every day as we kneel and pray that we were born with eyes to see these things. We thank Thee for the fields where the clovers grow we thank Thee for the pastures where the cattle may roam We thank Thee for Thy love so pure and free Oh Lord we thank Thee. Oh yes we thank Thee Lord for every flower that blooms birds that sing, fish that swim and the light of the moon. We thank Thee every day as we kneel and pray that we were born with eyes to see these things. We thank Thee for the fields where the clovers grow we thank Thee for the pastures where the cattle may roam We thank Thee for Thy love so pure and so free Oh Lord we thank Thee. LAUGH TO GO: My son said that he was going to spend Thanksgiving with his new bride in Paris. I told him to be sure to not gobble-up the turkey…and please write his mom and I when he gets there. He said, “With pen and paper?” HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!
