Thursday, November 28, 2013 Thanksgiving Thoughts Giving thanks and renewing commitment As we reflect on the blessings we have received as citizens of this great country, let us renew our commitment to protect and defend the virtue of America for our posterity. Our nation has been great because she has been good. She was founded on Christian principles and has flourished as she stood as the beacon of virtue and freedom for the world to see. And yet, in recent decades, she has begun to change. Let’s look at the thoughts of some of our patriot giants. General Omar Bradley said that we are filled with what we think is brilliance, yet we reject wisdom, we are nuclear giants and at the same time ethical infants. Eddie Rickenbacker observed that the world needs the purifying influence of Christianity, as historically reflected by America. And added that if we lose our virtue, it will be a tragedy for our world. If we continue to lose our morality, we will slip away into being like all other nations. John Adams said that the foundation of our constitution is virtue. He said that if we cannot inspire our people to contend for our virtue, no matter how many times we change leaders, we will not obtain lasting liberty. William Faulkner said that we have our freedoms not because we say we have them, but because we practice them, we contend for them. If we are apathetic and do not fight for our basic liberties, we will lose them. Let us remember with thanksgiving our national virtue and commit to protecting our culture.
