Thursdays Status Report on John W Morton: The first thing he did - TopicsExpress

Thursdays Status Report on John W Morton: The first thing he did when I went into his room today was get ticked off at me for waking him up. This was awesome! It reminded me of waking him up in his recliner. Thankfully, he went right back to sleep (no heavy sedation, just some pain management) and it was the most comfortable and relaxed Ive seen him since the ICU ordeal began 17 days ago. Clearly, he is much happier with the tracheotomy over what had to feel like a PVC pipe down his throat. Tubes and wires going into his nose (so ow) have been removed and his face is already healing from the battering they caused. His color looked beautiful and all his vitals are good. As for the fever, what fever? Its been normal. He still has fluid to get rid of, but output continues to be good. It just takes time, especially since hes not up and about. His blood gases were taken today and, according to the respiratory therapist, were real good. Of course, hes still receiving oxygen support but has really come down on the amount needed -- is on less than 50 percent now, which is great progress. His needs came down by 10 numbers just since midnight and his saturation is 98-100 percent on the lesser amount. :) Normal oxygen that we breathe is 21 percent and that is the direction hes going in. As far as moving to Windy Hill, he has to be on the trach for 7 days before they will receive him, so his transfer will be the middle of next week at the earliest, providing his doctors at Piedmont release him at that time. Should Piedmonts ICU actually wean him off the trach, Im not sure what the plans would be as far as a release date, transition facility, etc. In all honesty, I dont know when hell be home. As I said the other night, its going to be Gods will, Gods way and no other. TODAY was a great day, though -- Im making the ICU staff some Mississippi Sin Dip to take on Friday, plus another cheese ball and some cookies...not because Im stressed, but because Im happy and feel like throwing a party in the ICU break room :) Thank you again for all the prayers and support.
