Tiger Club is a day centre for 30 children from former street - TopicsExpress

Tiger Club is a day centre for 30 children from former street begging families. Although Green Gecko has always supported these families with rent, food, medical treatment and education costs; recent reports from their school teachers showed a dramatic difference in results and behaviour between the siblings who lived at Gecko and those who still lived at home. Despite much progress being made with the families over the years in regard to domestic violence, abuse and neglect; it was clear that remnants of this remained and they needed more holistic support if they were to grow like their Gecko siblings. So Tiger Club was founded in July 2013 to provide these children with a dedicated safe place for them to learn, rest and play while also focusing on nutrition and hygiene. Tiger Club is a located in a 6m square timber, grass and bamboo ‘hut’ in the garden of the Green Gecko outreach house, 50 metres from the main centre. For 5 hours a day, these children feel safe and protected. They eat 3 nutritious meals and they shower, delouse and wash their uniforms. They learn English, do their Khmer homework and have fun activities lead by dedicated Khmer staff. They run, they laugh, they squabble, they meditate, they learn, they create. Most of all, they relish in their new found sense of belonging, and a safe and protected place they can call their own.
