Time to answer the call - Mondale Smith Ive decided to answer the call: After winning the Banks DIH Guyana Star Search in 1993 as the Best Hip Hop artiste at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall with my self penned Da Big man...AIDS which was also the tool used to win the Guyana responsible Parent Hood, GRPA, HIP HOP DJ competition i kept quiet singing only in my bathroom and at karaoke. Then as i hit the age of 30 I decided to do so with a bang by entering the GT and T Jingle and song competition touring Berbice and Linden in the process before placing placing third in that competition with my self penned why isnt Love enough that moves between blues and funk with a sprinkling of old school Hip Hop at in 2007 at the National Park. Man the boos were fantastic yet i rose to the challenge and walked away with $250,000 in cash and prizes. My interest in singing was slighted since despite all the promises from company officials about recordings nothing happened. One day i was passing by the Brutal Tracks studios and heard Darrell Pugsley playing a track for Mystic and asked if i could try a thing and they filmed me doing a free style about a girl i was crazy about who screwed me over ...that landed on youtube. While on vacation just over a year ago in Barbados my sister/mum Myrtle Blakeney convinced me to enter the Q in the Community karaoke competition. Just to please her I did and won singing the standard My way. The prize included a gift voucher to shop and some rum. the ultimate prize however was to sing at a fund raiser event to raise funds for the children ward of the Barbados Queen Elizabeth Hospital. That evening the spirit of God was upon me i guess because I sang the my way with a gospel influence and before you knew it those in attendance ended up donating several thousand US$ midst calls for an encore. Some asked me if i was a preacher and if i had any recording for sale and all i did was laugh. I was invited back to the island to sing yet again but have not taken up the offer as duty called on home soil and since then Ive not given any thoughts to singing much less recording any of my songs. As i sit writing this note I feel the need to finally answer the call as im hearing a voice in my head telling me its time Mondale, its time. So i think that its time i get into the ring and start singing out of the bathroom... Look out because Ive got quite a few songs that Ive penned and since im signed to the DP Records label with Mr.magic fingers Darrel Pugsley im gonna be hitting the studio... so yall better listen out for me because Im coming as solid as a rock to showcase what God planted within me as a singer/song writer. youtube/watch?v=w_uoYlvOH0k
