Tingley Home 3.11.13 After cup matches the previous two weeks, we returned to league action on a bright & but blustery morning at Soldiers field against a Tingley side who this year looked stronger than in previous seasons after good wins already. Conditions were not easy & both teams took time to settle. We took the lead halfway through the half when Sam got to a through ball just before their keeper & placed the ball into the empty net. Pierre made a couple of good saves to keep us ahead (both from inside his area unlike last week !). We were looking dangerous from set pieces & Elliott hit the crossbar with a header from one of our corners. We scored a second late in the first half after a scramble from a corner which Michael claimed although their defender looked to have got the final touch. The huge puddle in the goalmouth may have also helped ! 2-0 at half time. We started the second half the better team & scored a third through Joe after a powerful shot from the edge of the box. This should have been game over but unfortunately we seemed to stop playing & think the game was won. Tingley pulled one back to make it 3-1 midway through the second half & this seemed to lift their confidence. We had chances to finish the game but could not find the final ball when it was needed & Joe headed over from a good chance from a corner. We were struggling to keep the ball & it was no surprise when Tingley made it 3-2 with 10 minutes left. Just when it looked like we would hold on for the win Tingley scored from a corner deep into injury time with the last kick of the game. Final score 3-3. This was a game we should have won & we need to make sure we do not let teams back into games like we did today. Credit to Tingley who never gave in & their supporters who followed their team in the right way. Man of the match was Sam who as well as taking his goal well always looked dangerous & made a good partnership with Jim in attack.
