Tip of the Week: Break off Bite Size Pieces With October and fall just around the corner, the new season gives you a great time to start a new habit, set a new goal and reach it by the end of the year. For a lot of people the thought of setting a goal is instant pressure and fear of failure. But Im going to share a surefire way to help you reach even your biggest goal. Back in the old days I was a project manager for technology projects. When a client purchased a contract from the company for the team to build something for them we had a number of things to set up and monitor. We didnt just throw a dart on the board of where the website or system we would create and set out for that point. That would have been a suicide mission with an overrun budget, burned out developers and team members and a very unhappy client. In order to meet the end goal, youve got to have a clear picture of what it is - or what you can imagine it to look like today. Then youve got to clear the path of clutter that may be in the way, and acquire the things youll need along the journey. By breaking a goal down into smaller chewable pieces its much easier to accomplish. For developers, we created hourly, daily, weekly and monthly deadlines to meet. That made it much easier to set a goal and reach it. So what about you - what would you like to do between now and the end of the year? How can you break down the goal into manageable bite size pieces that you know you can accomplish? By doing this youll build confidence in your ability to reach the goal and get there even faster. Want to lose weight? Heres a few bite size goals to help you on your way. 1. Get rid of the junk food and trigger foods in your house that dont fit in the category of whole, healthy food. 2. Plan a menu for the week (you can get help if needed from a holistic nutritionist - like me). 3. Go to the grocery store and only buy things that are on your new food plan. It is much easier to stay on track when you are surrounded by healthy, whole food options. And a bonus - once youve been eating healthier for 2-3 days your body will begin to lose cravings for the junk and sugar. It will ask you for good food. 4. Clean, wash and prep food right after you get home so you have no excuses. Create healthy snacks and put them in baggies for each day of the week. 5. Now, set a goal for what you want to weigh, what dress or pair of jeans you want to fit into and write down the goal and the date you will accomplish it. 6. Keep a food journal. Write down the amount of water you drink, how much sleep you get and plan your exercise days for the week. Track your progress. 7. Read your goal every morning and night to keep it top priority. Visualize yourself in those jeans and feel how good it feels. See yourself beaming in the mirror with delight. Enjoy the new level of energy you have. 8. Create some positive affirmations that positively state your goal as already accomplished. 9. Monitor your attitude and what you think and say. Keep only positive thoughts and throw out the negative ones as you go through the day. You are embarking on a journey and it’s a process. If you just started running you cant expect to run 10 miles your first day. But if you run, jog or run/walk one mile and continue doing it consistently youll build up your ability to reach the goal you have for running. It just takes practice to create the new level of health. 10. Check your progress at the end of each week. What did you do well? Where can you improve? Give yourself a pep talk if you need it or call someone for and ask for their support. Believe in yourself and your ability to reach any goal you set. When you set small manageable goals youll be there before you know it. If you need help breaking your goals down into bite size pieces, schedule an appointment today.
