To add my two cents to all the feminism/LAF stuff on FB right now... I am a feminist. I do not hate men, harbor a victim complex, demand special treatment, require anyone to fight my battles, or believe that a womans right to choose extends to the lives of others, no matter how small. However, I am no fool. I am still treated like an anomaly because I happen to have a brain, I am instantly assumed to be uninformed about the world around me, and people are more interested in the state of my uterus than the state of my soul, mind, and heart. In the Christian world, my sisters are taught that mens lustful thoughts are justified by the length of their sleeves, and that shame is practically a virtue. Women are unilaterally relegated to the nursery and kitchen irrespective of their gifts, and many are made to feel guilty for choosing to remain single, or to seek leadership positions. I am called Mrs. Kalt regardless of what I tell people my name is, and my doctor tells me to consult my parents and/or husband about my options regarding medical care before I make thoroughly simple decisions, even though none of these people have an MD. I choose to ally myself with feminists because I want to align myself with Gospel-centered ideas that promote human equality and justice. Everything is what you make of it in social idealism. I disagree with many feminists on many topics. However, I agree with the fundamental, inalienable truth that all human persons are equal in Gods eyes, and that we are not treated as such.
