To all Clyde ratepayers - potential increase in our rates!: As most of you are aware, the Clyde Stationary Engine Museum guys have been evicted from the Clyde Railway Station building, supposedly to allow for restoration work to commence. Some of you may not care that the Museum is gone - but what happens to the building will almost certainly, I believe, impact on our rates. If the building is to be turned into something useable such as a restaurant, bike shop, information centre (all the ideas are being mooted) than this will require HUGE expense as the building needs not only restoring (for which funding has been raised, I think) but also the installation of power, water, sewerage, toilets, insulation etc. Do we really need another Community Hall type building - we have plenty of underutilised ones around the District as is, surely. Do we really need another drain on our Councils coffers? Do we need yet another expense on our rates bills (we are, after all, going to be paying a massive increase in our uniform water charge, plus still paying for our water usage on top of that). I would just like to point out that I have no beef with the restoration of the building, but am still in the dark as to why the Clyde Stationary Engine Museum was kicked out, or what the exact proposal is for the building now that the Museum is gone, despite letters (dated 5/2/14 and 3/3/14) to the CEO of the CODC, Phil Melhopt, the Property Manager at the CODC, Mike Kerr and the Mayor of the CODC, Tony Lepper. All of these people informed me that me letters have been forwarded to the Vincent Community Board - and to date, I have had no response. If you believe that there is some merit in the issues I have raised, I urge you to voice your concerns to the Vincent Community Board - but dont hold your breath for a response! Please share this amongst everyone in Clyde!
