To all of Tacey’s friends, especially the ones who have read The - TopicsExpress

To all of Tacey’s friends, especially the ones who have read The Fault in Our Stars, I know you are shocked by Tacey’s latest diagnosis. So are we! There are several things I want you to know. First, don’t assume the ending of the book is Tacey’s ending! It isn’t!! She will write her own ending to her own book. It is going to be a happy one! Second, it is okay to ask questions. For most of you, this is a new experience and something no one, especially someone your age, should ever have to experience. The reality is it is here and we must deal with it. Third, this is not the first, second or even third time Tacey has beat cancer! This will be her fourth time to win! She was a baby the first time she beat it. Imagine how much stronger she is now than she was then. Fourth, the next few months are going to be different. Tacey won’t be different; you won’t be different; the situation will be different. We want each of you to continue being an active part of her life. That might mean via Facetime, iMessaging or Facebook messaging, but we want you to stay in touch! Fifth, yes, she will lose her beautiful hair once again. It will grow back! This is her fourth head of hair! Each time it has come back more beautiful than before. Imagine how gorgeous this fifth head of hair will be! She had just cut her hair and made a donation to make wigs for other kids needing wigs. She has requested a wig, but those are not always comfortable to wear. Sixth, she will look and feel different. Not only will she lose her hair, but she will lose some weight. There are days she will feel great and days she will be real tired and weak. There are days she will need to use a wheelchair to conserve her energy and days she will be able to do anything you can do. There are days she will be hungry and days she will not be able to eat. All of this is from the chemo that thankfully is saving her life! Yes, she is fragile in some ways because of the chemo, but deep inside she is still that tough girl that has no fear! She already looks different. Her hair has started to come out. She is very pale and has lost weight. She doesn’t like you to see her that way, because she doesn’t want you to think of her as the girl with cancer or being sick! She wants you to keep seeing her as she has been and WILL BE AGAIN! She will be on chemo this whole school year. When she returns to school, she will still be bald, skinny and will look sick. All of this is physical and will improve!! Her spirit is the same. She is still sarcastic, funny, smart and the Tacey you know! Thank you supporting Tacey during this challenging time! Your friendship is very important to her. She depends on all of you to help her stay one of the crowd! Please talk to us and ask questions if you need to! Stay in touch via cell phone or iMessaging. Don’t be afraid to share the fun stuff you are doing at school and in life. That helps Tacey stay up to date and feel like she knows what is happening. She will be attending the Cougar football game tonight. We will be sitting in the open, concrete area beside the band. She cannot hug you or get too close, but she would love for you to come by and at least say something to her and let her know you are there. Thank you for being part of this journey with Tacey!! If you are one of her friends from school or elsewhere, message me for her phone number and contact info. Hugs to each of you! Tammy, Taceys mom
