To all those out there who took the time to speak to us, discussed their vision, their values or just raised their concerns, I thank you. A special thanks to all our volunteers and supporters all the way from the Shadow Ministers (now Ministers!) to the campaign volunteers and even to those who saw us when we were flagging, and revived us with coffee. We ran a campaign here in Burwood that revolved around achieving a fairer society. It involved all ages. It involved people from all walks of life. People believed in the change we represented. Many of you volunteered thousands of hours of your time. It was a true grassroots campaign. We stood up for the values of fairness, equity, opportunity and the rights of the most vulnerable in our community - a massive contrast to the conservatives whose model of community engagement seemed to be sending dozens of negative pieces of mail into peoples letterboxes. We were outspent 10 to 1, however we spoke to over 12,000 households, we walked out our own mail across the electorate at least four times, and we took the time to listen. This listening is crucial. As a proud local, I will still be listening to your ideas and concerns, helping people and working with our community groups to make a stronger local community.
