To all you cycle haters out there, youll be glad to know that us cyclists who took part in The Ride 100 today were well and truly dumped on!!! The course was shortened to 86 miles due to safety concerns regarding the weather and I can honestly say that Ive never experienced such a heavy and prolonged period of rain as to what was offered to us today. The course was a hazard from start to finish to the point that manhole covers were lifting due to the amount of rain. The ride itself was tougher than I imagined and it didnt help having a sore knee and back from after about 40 miles of cycling. When my hamstrings began to cramp after about 60 miles, I really thought I was done for!!! But the thought of fellow family members Andrew Hawkes and Grant Gainey and very good friends Nick Smith, Kevin Paul Norris, Mark Travers and Leon Parks going through or gone through the same punishing ordeal and all the wonderful messages of support and very generous donations, it really gave me the strength and belief to push on through and get the ride done. I am happy to report that all mentioned above completed the ride safe and sound and are now the owners of a very special medal which I must say is a very worthy reward for the event that we have undertook today. My event was finished with a free 15 minute massage and when the lady asked what I would like? I replied by asking what her specialty was? This was confronted with a look of disgust and bearing in mind that there was 4 other masseurs in the room giving other participants their free 15 minute massage I really didnt mean it like that. So to be more exact she asked if I had any problems during the ride on any parts of my body in particular? I asked her to do my lower back and hamstrings as this was the areas of most discomfort. I leapt on the bed and spent the next 15 minutes being elbowed in my upper back and having my rib cage prized apart!!! (She didnt get tipped). Thank you to all who have shared this journey with me, it has been a wonderful experience and I feel a better person for it. After going through many thoughts today, the one that stands out the most is; Life is not about me, its about us......................... Lets stop killing each other and start caring for each other??? One Love X
