To clarify something from a previous post. Do I believe that IS or al-Shabaab pose a serious threat to the entirety of the United States? Absolutely not. Do I believe that they have the ability to carry out an attack from within the U.S. as they claim to be planning? As stated in said earlier post: Yes, they do have the ability to levy an attack from within our borders due to our high level of freedom and inherent vulnerabilities. As also stated, these organizations pose a more immediate threat to our overseas interests. The U.S. is not 100% secure. Although we project unparalleled power throughout the world, it would be irresponsible to suggest that we are invulnerable to attack. Any history of the past 50 years would demonstrate the contrary. ***THIS IS WHERE MEDIA MORONS WOULD BEGIN DESCRIBING OUR VULNERABILITIES. THIS IS WHERE I WILL REFRAIN FROM DOING SO BECAUSE I STILL BELIEVE IN SOMETHING CALLED OPSEC. LOOSE LIPS SINK SHIPS.*** Our best defense is vigilance and we have a secret weapon: our own citizenry. We all have to remain aware. This does not mean that we should live as a paranoid mass filled with constant anxiety. Rather, it takes only for people to be aware and accept that the peaceful world around you only appears that way because of the hard work of our military, law enforcement, and intelligence communities. A vigilant citizenry creates a de facto hard target. Attacks, whether from a pickpocket or a terror group, are always levied against perceived soft targets. Unfortunately, I also believe that much of our nation has fallen asleep as of late and some have simply turned the other way.
