To ditch potential grooms Part 96 All pens down, time is up - TopicsExpress

To ditch potential grooms Part 96 All pens down, time is up was all I heard minutes before I placed by stationary back into my pencil case. Our papers were collected. We were all told to stay behind for a few minutes as our principal wanted to address us. This was the last paper that matrics countrywide sat down to which was unusual. Normally all matrics finished on different days but we all started with an English paper and finished with an English paper. Our principal made her way to the front of the examination hall and addressed us. Good morning. Ordinarily I would save this speech until next year when the awards ceremony is scheduled, however there are many that do not attend it. So I would just like to take this opportunity to say a few words to you all as it may well be the last time we are all together. It has been an absolute pleasure to have been part of you young ladies lives for the last five years. I know most of you personally and I and all the other educators have watched you all blossom from girls to the young ladies you all are today. We are proud of each and every one of you and we have no doubt that many of you will go forth and keep the name of this school flying high. For those that do not make it, it is not the end of the world. When you fall, you shouldnt despair or be discouraged, you pick yourself up and try again. Dont let one failure deter you from achieving your dreams. So matrics of the class 2002, I and all the other teachers wish you all health, wealth, success and prosperity. Go forward and achieve greatness. That was it then, our schooling career over. 13 years of our lives spent with various teachers, friends and fellow students done and dusted. Many of us will leave behind the friendships we made and forge new ones as we soldier on and charter a new course for ourselves. Of course many of us vowed to keep in touch with each other and promised to meet up with one another but realistically speaking many of those promises would be broken as we all would gradually change and life would take us in another direction. We all had mixed feelings. We felt jubilant about writing our final paper but also sad as we might never lay eyes on one another again and also excited at the prospect of what lay ahead for us. We all loudly applauded and hugged the principal and the few teachers that gathered in the examination hall and left. Outside the atmosphere was pretty much the same teary eyed we all embraced each other, exchanged telephone numbers and issued invitations to visit. Some of us will cross paths when we return to collect our matric certificates and others at the awards ceremony that would take place the next year, some of us might end up crossing paths 20 years later and some not at all. That was the reality of life. We couldnt hold on to the past, we had to live in the moment and make the best of it whilst it lasted. Fai and I were so caught up with one or another girl hugging us that none of us had noticed that her fiance and my brother were parked nearby. We were about to make our way out of the school when we both heard our names being called out. Fai was excited at seeing her beau. We both approached them and I greeted her fiance and they left after I made my introductions. So Shaz, you are officially unemployed. How do you feel? chuckled Shakeer. Its a bittersweet feeling Shaks I said as I sighed and he drove off homeward bound. To be continued...
