To echo the great Lou Gehrig, I am the luckiest man on the face of the earth. While I have my share of problems, I am both fortunate and blessed. I have the BEST students a teacher can ask for! Today, I was in my office in the rear of the shop, and I was told the guidance counselor needed to see me in the office. Im wondering whats wrong? As I walked into the theory room on my way to the office, there they all were with a huge chocolate cake with peanut butter icing (my favorite!) They all yelled SURPRISE and I have to honestly say I did not see it coming! With all that Ive done wrong, I must be doing something right.......... Im not tagging any of them because I would not want to leave any of them out! You guys make me PROUD. Every day! I can see that the program is having a positive influence on you by how you now go out of your way to help others in need. I LOVE it when you tell me about how you use your new-found knowledge to explain medical problems, legal issues, and fire safety to your families! These past seven years have been wonderful. So many of you have gone on to careers in our field, secondary education in our field, or both. YOU are the future of emergency services. My time in this glorious pursuit is winding down (although I still have a few good years left!) and it is YOUR TURN to take the torch and run with it. So, keep being the wonderful kids you are and keep learning. Above all, please dont fall into the trap as some of our former students have sadly done. THANK YOU for giving me a reason to get up at 4:30 every morning and get to work 45 minutes early. I wouldnt change it for the world.
