To my friends and relatives: I will now tell you what has been - TopicsExpress

To my friends and relatives: I will now tell you what has been going on in my life since December of 2013. I know there some hurt feelings because, for the most part, I kept this to myself. I have been in terrible pain in my body since last December because of what we ( the doctors and myself) thought was rheumatoid arthritis. Yes, I do have that and we thought that was it. However, since April we have known that something else was also going on. My shoulder was injected in April with no effect. Again, it was injected in August, the 22nd to be exact, again with no effect. I was also advised to seek physical therapy which I did, hoping that may strengthen it(the shoulder) enough to bring it out of whatever was happening in there. The physical therapist, after measuring and going through her techniques, simply said that any therapy she would do would absolutely do no good as the rotator cuff was torn and she would simply be taking my money with no results. Very honest gal. So, back we go. The rheumatologist contacted the orthopedic surgeon that I had seen in 2011. I saw Dr. Carlson on September 3rd. He injected me with what he called a cocktail! Sounds good, doesnt it? It lasted all of 2 weeks. I was set up for a mri which was done in Watertown at Prairie Lakes HCC. I then met with Dr Carlson in Brookings and decided to have the repair job done as I could not continue to work the way I was. So on Tuesday, September 30th, I was operated on at Avera McKennan in Sioux Falls. The pain I have experienced since December has been terrible. If you will look back to Christmas, I just spent my time at home because that is where I was the most comfortable. The flare-ups came any time, any where. In April, I thought things were looking up, but on Easter Sunday, God had different plans for me. Have I been depressed over this? Yes! Significantly! Mainly because I did not know what was happening. The surgery went well. Let me tell you, have everything done before you have this surgery because you cannot do a thing afterwards for quite a while. The pain at the present is pretty well controlled. I will have a lot of therapy to do. I do not know how long I will be off work at the present and that is a concern. Hopefully after a month or six weeks, I can go back for a few hours a day to something with no lifting involved. I have visited with the manager and he said to simply let him know when the Dr. felt I could do this. So there it is in a nutshell! If I have offended some because I did not share this earlier, I am sorry. That was not my intention. If you will just stop and think about a Christmas and Easter. That is exactly why I stayed home. I thought I had explained that. But most was kept to myself for various reasons. I went through hell this past spring and summer. Now we all know why. Life is now good and I look forward to many many more good years. I am so good in all other aspects. Also, my rheumatoid arthritis is also very well controlled, thanks to Dr. Mumm. I hope this explains everything. I do not like to air all on Facebook but thought I should. That way, if you are concerned, you know the whole story. Thanks for your prayers!!!
