To my unborn son, Firstly, I love you. I will always love you. At present, you are only a long-off thought, like a memory I want to have but must live through first. One of four possible names. But I am confident you will join us someday soon. Not tomorrow or next week. But soon. At least I hope so. I dream of knowing you, of learning more about you. What type of person will you be? Will you be a writer or a thinker? Will you be an athlete or stock broker? Will you live on the moon? Will you protect others from evil? Will you save a cat from up a tree? Whoever you are, whoever you become, I promise I will always love you. I can’t promise to be perfect, but I can promise to be me and do my best. We will likely have our disagreements over the years. More as you grow up and yearn to see and learn more of the wide world. Push boundaries, my child. Too often, we cower in corners and hand over control of our lives to fear. You will feel fear. It’s natural. But do not give in to it. Close your eyes if you must, ask for help if you need it. But keep going. Don’t give up. Remember, I will always love you. Even when those days arrive where your mother and I are no longer here. I know it may seem morbid to discuss death when you have not yet been born but I wish to have no taboos with you. Death is a part of life. And though parents would give much to shield their children from such seemingly scary topics, I want you to know of them. Ultimately, you will be stronger for it. When you show up, I implore: don’t neglect or forsake your heart. There will be many voices calling to you – from within and without – but hold fast to the one deep, deep inside. That’s your heart, your soul, your love, your passion. That is you. Heed it. Follow it. Do not let anyone or anything steer you from it. God sends each of us here for a purpose. Pursue it. I hope you live, my child, and do not simply exist. On the journey, do not cease learning. Experience, touch, taste, smell, listen, and see. Do not settle for anything less than what brings you fulfillment and utter joy. Remember you are human and you can do anything. I know I will meet you someday. I do not know when. It won’t be tomorrow or next week. But it will be someday. But its gone be hard because me an your mother not together so i hope you understand why we not together son. I can’t wait to meet you. I love you. Always, Dad
