To my wonder of a youngest daughter, Brooke Oates, on this her 15th birthday: Its hard to wrap my mind around you turning 15. My baby girl, growing up so fast...the change in you as a young woman from the age of 14 to now has been nothing short of remarkable. Youve hit the ground running in your freshman year of high school. Swimming varsity, working hard in the classroom, setting goals...Im so VERY proud...You have always been a child with the most AMAZING heart, but now its coupled with a flat-out love of life and the journey its beginning to take you on that is nothing short of inspiring. When the people and behaviors I deal with on an almost daily basis begin to make me, ummmm, lets just call it cranky, you and your sister help to ground me and remind me what love and hope is, and for that I thank you, you have NO idea how important that is in my life...As for YOUR life, dont stop what youre doing...continue to run headfirst into life...live and love every day. Dont let negativity or the people that bring it sway you from your course or allow them to change you as a person...your amazing heart will always be your truest beacon, and its in that beacons light that Ill always be, believing in and loving you, forever and always...
