Today, 7/23, please join us at the Space Foundation in the Hill Conference Room at 11:00 a.m. and/or 2:00 p.m. to meet our Space Foundation Board Member and former NASA astronaut, Kathryn Thornton, Ph.D., who is now Professor, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, at the University of Virginia School of Engineering and Applied Science. A veteran of four space flights (STS-33 in 1989, STS-49 in 1992, STS-61 in 1993 and STS-73 in 1995), Dr. Thornton has logged over 975 hours in space, including more than 21 hours of extravehicular activity. She will talk about her career leading up to NASA, her Space Shuttle missions, and her endeavors since that time, and will answer questions from the audience. Light refreshments will be served. Dr. Thornton will be signing autographs in the Discovery Center following each of these presentations. Also, if you know of families with daughters ages 12+, Dr. Thornton will be hosting a special session on Tuesday, 7/23, at 4:00 p.m., in the Hill Conference Room. This will be an open round-table conversation with young ladies who are interested in careers in STEM and/or aerospace… kind of a mini-mentoring session.
