Today December 4th Titus 3:1-8 Remind the believers to submit to the government and its officers. They should be obedient, always ready to do what is good. They must not slander anyone and must avoid quarreling. Instead, they should be gentle and show humility to everyone. Once we, too, were foolish and disobedient. We were misled and became slaves to many lusts and pleasures. Our lives were full of evil and envy, and we hated each other. But--When God our Savior revealed his kindness and love, he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior. Because of his grace he declared us righteous and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life. This is a trustworthy saying, and I want you to insist on these teachings so that all who trust in God will devote themselves to doing good. These teachings are good and beneficial for everyone. Think about this: In his letter, Paul refers no less than thirteen times to Titus, a convert from Greek heathenism. Titus is proof that God can turn a dead-end life around so that a person can live in the wide-open spaces of His grace! Thursday - First Week of Advent Jesus says that if you take to heart his words and make them the basis of your actions, your life is built on a rock -solid foundation. This raises some questions. First, have you built a set of convictions that you try to live by? Or, do you more or less operate on a vague desire to do right? If you do have convictions, then another question is this: What are they based on? The rock of Gods word? Or the shifting sands of what seems generally acceptable in our society? When the rain and floods and winds come into your life - and they do - you need solid footings. As a disciple of the Lord, you commit yourself to more than following the Gospel whenever possible and/or convenient. Just for starters... Do you forgive when you feel like it, or do you have a conviction based on the solid rock of what Jesus taught about forgiveness? Or, prayer. Do you pray when you get the chance, or do you have a rock-solid pattern of prayer? You need to spend some time taking stock of the foundations on which you have built your life.
