Today I feel like defending Islam. “Every Muslim country is different. Islam is a just a religion. It is not violent. If you are a violent person your Islam, your Judaism, you Islam, you Christianity, and your Hinduism is going to be violent… There are marauding Buddhist monks in Myanmar slaughtering women and children so does Buddhism promote violence: of course not.” “Female Genital mutilation [FGM] is not an Islamic problem it is an African problem. Eritrea has 90% FGM and it is a Christian Country. Ethiopia has 75% FGM and it is a Christian country. [In non-African Muslim countries] FGM is not an issue. In Indonesia [A Muslim country] women are 100% equal to men, in Turkey [a Muslim country] there is more female political representatives than in the United States. “Stop saying Muslim countries! To say “Muslims countries” as though Pakistan and Turkey are the same, as if Indonesia and Saudi Arabia are the same, as if what is happening in the most extreme form in the most repressive countries are representative of what is happening in other Muslim countries is just stupid.” I highly recommend Reza Aslan’s book “No God but God: The Origins, Evolution, and Future of Islam.”
