Today, I had the opportunity to work with a stroke survivor. She is only 31-years-old and is 2 years post-stroke. Her optimism, attitude, and zest for life had me completely amazed throughout the entire assessment. She has visual field losses, restricted use of her affected arm/hand, weakness of her left side, and cognitive deficits (memory delays, etc.) due to the stroke she experienced. She had almost all of us in tears when we asked her to rate her life on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the best) and she said 10 without skipping a beat. It really made me put so many things in perspective. If someone asked you right this second to rate your life on a scale of 1-10, what would you answer? Are you choosing to focus on small and petty details rather than the big picture? Im so thankful for experiences like these, because they remind me so very quickly what truly matters, and what never will
