Today I have been painting beautiful Lloyd Loom basket weave bedside cupboards. What a difference painting old furniture in brightly coloured paint and rubbing it off at edges and corners giving a shabby but new look. I love distressing chest of drawers, cabinets and chairs. They look good in modern spaces as well as older country cottages and houses. The beauty is you can mix different eras of furniture and get away with it. You can make some pieces the focal point of a room, especially by adding a stylish mirror on the wall above a chest of drawers. You can add glamour simply by painting furniture white, this is lovely in a bedroom, with candle sticks, sliver ornaments, and soft lighting. I was talking to a lady and she told me she got fed up with her pine bedroom and took the bull by the horns, or rather the paint brush and she painted all the pine white, bought new handles with some not matching and it looked a different room.She also added rich aubergine coloured bedding. People are looking for the element of surprise in their homes by adding quirky accessories, that individual look, a few old pieces renovated to make them fit in is great. Before you throw that old thing out try painting it!
