Today I taught my first chemistry class. (It should be a fun year.) About midway through class, a man Id never seen before came in and said, Its all been handled. Everythings safe now. I had no idea what he meant, but I said, OK. Thanks, and went back to the lesson. The kids never even asked who he was. Apparently, all the public buildings in our area - co-op meets at a church - were on lock down because of a nearby shooting. I had no idea. Even hours later, Im not freaked out. I think this means that Id do well in an actual emergency.
