Today is Guru Purnima - for those who dont know, it is a day you celebrate your teachers, the people that made you who you are. I never really had a long term formal guru although I have learned from great masters from a far . My respects first to my father Dr. Pratap Kale , and my mother Sheela Kale for opening the door of music for me and keeping it open even when others told them not to and for always filling our house with music..and to my entire extended family for always supporting me even when they thought I was insane...Anja Matthes and Milan Xai for showing me the universe and their undying support......Ustad Zakir Hussain for being the greatest inspiration , guide and pillar that remains the example of what i always strive towards. Pandit Shantilal Shah who briefly taught me tabla in Pune when I was about 15 years old and gave me the fundamentals that I use to this day. Pandit Sameer Chatterjee, for teaching me while in college, encouraging me to follow my path, and recommending me to perform at the United Nations when I was 22. and.....All my teachers in school Mr Cosgrif, Mr Palmer, Mr Hodges, Mr Vacaro, Mrs Alexander.....and ...to Pandit Ravi Shankar, Rush, the Police, Sting, Peter Gabriel, Kiss, Yes, Stevie Wonder, Hall and Oats, Micheal Jackson, Metallica, Aphex Twin, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Trilok Gurtu, Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, Hans Zimmer, Genesis, Bill Laswell, Living Colour, U2, Vinny Colauta, and list goes on and on ....and to all the great musicians I have had the privilege of playing with through the years...Everything I know was learned through my interactions with you all........Namaskar
